Political photojournalist John Gress has covered every major 2008 presidential
candidate. In 2004, he covered the presidential primary and general
elections, as well as the Republican and Democratic national conventions.
While his compositions range from subtle to over the top, Gress
work captures the complex essence of running for elective office. Take,
for example, Hillary Clintons steeliness or Howard Dean simply
looking at his watch during his presidential campaigns last week.
In 2006 John documented the Congressional campaign of Tammy Duckworth,
an Army helicopter pilot who lost both of her legs in an RPG attack
over Iraq. Duckworth, a Democrat, attempted to win an open seat in a
historically Republican district, but in the end failed. She went on
to be appointed the head of Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.
